From a gentle hike or fast paced run, a fun evening of arts or other pastimes, even a sale of baked goods! It's open to all ages and is a great way to FUNdraise! See below for details.
In the world of palliative care, May is also an important month with National Hospice Palliative Care Week. Running from May 4th -10th, it aims to raise awareness across the country for what Palliative and Hospice Care really means. And National Volunteer Week was last week, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our incredible team of volunteers without who, none of this would be possible! Thank you to you all!
The Centre for Palliative Care & Hospice | | Work on addressing the conditions of the subdivision continues between the landowners and the Town of Canmore. We are very encouraged by the progress so far and we anticipate its completion for the start of the summer. The PCSBV team along with architects Metafor and the construction manager CANA, are forging ahead with the development plans of the building. This includes finalizing the mechanical and electrical design, IT considerations as well as the finalizing of the interiors. Our goal is to be ready to go, once we have the green light on permits. We are continuing to focus on raising funds to be able to start this work quickly and thank all of you who continue to commit to this incredible vision. On June 22nd, we will be holding an event at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Come see for yourself how the plans are shaping up, ask questions about the space and its design, our programs and services and how you can get involved. Mark your calendars!
| | | From May 15 to June 15, Pals for Palliative fundraisers will be doing the activities they love while raising awareness and funds for the Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley. All funds raised directly support local palliative care and grief support.

In 2023, the Bow Corridor reported 633 prevalent cases of dementia across all ages, a nearly 10% increase on the previous year. And it continues to grow. The 2025 grant funding from Rotary Club of Canmore will allow us to respond to this growing need by providing our volunteers with specific tools and knowledge to support a person living with dementia, their families and caregivers. A heartfelt thank you to Rotary Club of Canmore and its members for investing in compassionate care and making a real impact! | | | Date: Tuesday May 6, 2025Time: 10:30am-12:00pmLocation: ZoomFacilitator: Bill Harder – PCSBV Program ManagerNo cost to attend - Donations to PCSBV are welcome!During this session the doctors will discuss their book Hope for the Best, Plan for the Rest, and their newly released corresponding workbook. These resources, and Sammy and Hsien’s stories, draw upon their decades spent researching and caring for thousands of seriously ill patients to reveal the seven keys for a better illness experience. With real-life stories, tips, and exercises to improve the palliative journey right from diagnosis, they seek to empower patients and care partners and provide practical tools to navigate the health care system with knowledge, confidence, and clarity.

"Volunteering grants us the gift of genuine connections with people, while creating community and new friendships." | | During national volunteers week from April 27- May 3 we celebrated the incredible waves of kindness and compassion made by PCSBV volunteers! Each act, big or small, creates ripples of hope and strength in our Bow Valley Communities. We had a fantastic time at our annual volunteer appreciation event where we enjoyed great food and the company of our volunteers while gathering to connect and mingle with our whole volunteer crew. Without our dedicated volunteers PCSBV could not operate and provide services for those in need of palliative care and grief support. BIG thank you ALL our amazing volunteers, and check out our social media pages to view features of some of the people working behind the scenes as volunteers for PCSBV.
| | | | Join us TOMORROW for a unique and engaging in-person workshop in collaboration with Community Cruisers, where we bring together bike maintenance and grief support in one hands-on evening.
Date: Tuesday May 6, 2025 Time: 6:00-8:00pm Location: Canmore Public Library - 700 Railway Ave Canmore
In this interactive session, participants will rotate through three learning stations designed to build confidence in basic bike care while drawing parallels to how we maintain our emotional well-being through grief and loss. We encourage participants to bring their own bikes so they can follow along and apply what they learn. This event is suitable for all experience levels and creates a welcoming space to connect, learn, and reflect—on both bikes and life. | | Exciting News!
