Charity of Choice for BOWDA December Luncheon

We were very fortunate to be selected by BOWDA (Bow Valley Builders & Developers Association) as one of their two charities of choice for 2024/25 and benefit from their annual Holiday luncheon fundraiser on December 12th. It was so wonderful to see the commitment to the two of charities from all of the 180 people in the room and the organizations that they represent. Along with a lot of fun and laughter, they raised just under $90,000 and it continues to grow!

We are blown away by our community’s generosity and are so excited that we get to be part of it, continuing to grow our programs and supports to meet the increasing demand and to look ahead to a space that can benefit even more of our friends and neighbours in the Valley!

Thank you BOWDA and your members and thank you to our Bow Valley community who have supported us throughout!

PCSBV Newsletter February 2025
These unseasonable warmer temperatures and the lack of snow in the Bow Valley have really impacted many of our winter activities. It’s hard to believe that we are only one month into the New Year as we look around us, faced with rethinking what we had planned and finding new ways to enjoy the winter months.

Finding ways to adjust to a ‘new normal’ is often one of the biggest challenges for our clients receiving a life-changing diagnosis as well as their loved ones. Our compassionate Companions are great listeners. Just expressing your inner thoughts to someone outside your circle of family and friends can be a great start. Talking through the questions and emotions, navigating resources and finding new ways to do what matters most, takes time but with our trained volunteers, it can be just a little bit easier.

As more people come to us for support, the demand for volunteers grows. If you would like to find out more about volunteering for PCSBV, check out the section below.  We provide training, peer support and wellness classes and there are many ways in which you can volunteer.

PCSBV Volunteer Wins Alzheimer's Society Roger Marple Award
Congratulations to Lee Rinne PCSBV’s Dementia Care Team Lead for winning the Alzheimer’s Society Roger Marple Volunteer Award - Alberta and Northwest Territories!

The Roger Marple Volunteer Award was created to honor a volunteer who reflects his spirit and dedication to Alzheimer’s Society and those affected by dementia. The award is presented to the volunteer who supports people living with dementia and personifies Roger’s promise:

“I promise I will not make fun of any challenges you may have with your terminal condition called life. I will see who you are regardless of any challenges you may have.  I will recognize and support you to live your life to the fullest regardless of the challenges you have. I promise to recognize what hope looks like for you living your life to the fullest, with the time you have left, so you can live a good quality of life. And most of all, I will respect who you are.”

Lee's passion for Dementia Caregiver advocacy and quality of life for persons living with dementia is palpable. She has consistently been a thoughtful resource, leader, and neighbour in the Bow Valley community. With a genuine interest in helping others, Lee has shared a significant amount of effort to her volunteer role as Team Lead for the Dementia Care Team. In this role, she manages a group of eight to ten volunteers who work directly with caregivers and persons living with dementia, contributing an average of 10 to 15 hours on a weekly basis. Some of the tasks involved include providing education and resources to caregivers, encouraging her team of volunteers to bear witness and listen with an open heart, continued personal education and growth, community navigation, advocacy and much more.

Thank you, Lee, for your dedication to PCSBV and the Dementia Care Team.

Congratulations on the well deserved recognition!

The Centre for
Palliative Care & Hospice

Please note: All building images reflect early design concepts and are subject to changes as design development continues.
Work continues with the Town of Canmore to finalize the land subdivision and proceed towards the planning permits. In the meantime, the team from PCSBV, Metafor, our architects, and CANA, the construction manager are focused on value engineering, part of the process where we get a better idea of the budget for construction.

This process will ensure that our building provides the best quality and optimal functionality that we can while keeping on budget and within timelines.

Buildings like ours do not typically attract government capital funding. The Centre for Palliative Care and Hospice in Canmore will be possible thanks to our generous donors. It is our ultimate goal to make this place feel like a home from home, a sanctuary, a source of support, a place for a whole community.
