Social Services and Support

No man is an island. Social support is a key end-of-life element for both you, your family and friends.

To help you, this information is an overview of social supports available to us in the  Bow Valley for  patients and families.

Our information is not only aimed at assisting the patient, but also includes social resources for family and caregivers of patients in their end-of-life and palliative journey.

Part of the challenge for patients is learning how to talk about their situation: How do I tell my family members, grandchildren about my disease? How do I communicate my desires and wishes for this last part of my life journey?

The information we have compiled here and in the Resource Guide may provide you with some of those answers and the help you may need.

Resource Guide

The Resource Guide has been compiled as a handy, one-stop reference for the many aspects of palliative and end-of-life care and supports.

The Guide covers topics from disease management, to loss and grief, to a variety of community and social supports. It also covers the difficult topic of death and the administration of dying.

The Guide was completed in 2019 and will be reviewed and updated annually. For resources not listed in the Guide or for further insight into supports across the community, please reach out to us at
