In collaboration with Family and Community Support Services, the Palliative care Society of the Bow Valley offering a Blue Monday event to create space for community to connect with one another and express grief and loss. The third Monday in January has been said to be the most depressing day of the year, and the day with the highest rate of suicide. Blue Monday events are a way to encourage conversation around mental health and let those who are suffering or grieving know that they are not alone.
We invite the public to gather at 7 pm at Elevation Place Plaza. There will be some words of welcome and instructions regarding the ritual. Participants can write messages of grief, loss, or struggle and hang them on a grief tree. There will be hot chocolate and cookies and a chance to connect with mental health and grief supports. The Grief Tree will remain in the Elevation Place atrium for the week and be available for the public to add messages to.
