TRAINING: LEAP Online

February 17th and February 24th, 2021, 530pm to 830pm MST


LEAP Online is a facilitated online learning program that provides health care professionals with the essential skills and competencies of the palliative care approach.

The Palliative Care Society of Bow Valley is pleased to announce that we are hosting a new opportunity for health care professionals and allied professions on February 17th and February 24th for LEAP Online.

LEAP Online consists of 16 self-directed and interactive online modules completed at your own pace (approximately 6-8 hours of work). A webinar portion that is approximately 6 hours which you must be present for. The webinar portion will be from 5:30-8:30pm (Mountain Standard Time zone) on Wednesday February 17th and Wednesday February 24th .
 
The deadline to register is February 1st, 2021.

How to Register
Visit www.pallium.ca and click on Pallium Central login button 
 
If you do not have an account, please create one. 
 
Go to your email to verify your account (check your junk mail) and click the confirmation link inside the email sent from Pallium Central. 
 
Once you are logged into your account: 
 
Click on the orange button that reads “I have an enrollment key”. Type in the enrollment key (ENROLLMENT KEY: FEBBOW), then Click on the “go to course” button. Follow the subsequent steps.
 
Pre-Course Activities
All three Pre-Course Activities must be completed before the start of the course in order to receive your certificate of completion. The Pre-Course Activities can take up to 2 hours to complete. 
 
1.     Login to your Pallium Central account.
2.     Select My Courses and then go to the Course Work button on the right-hand side.
3. Read the information and complete all Pre-Course Activities: 

  • Attitudes to Palliative and End-of-Life Care Survey 
  • Palliative Care Comfort Scale  
  • Palliative Care Knowledge Quiz 

 A quick note about Pre-Course Activities: Some of the information in the Pre-Course Activities might be out of your scope of practice, but please complete them to the best of your ability. The Pre-Course Activities are standardized across all professions (e.g. nurses, physicians, social workers, pharmacists, allied health, etc.) and therefore some of the focus and questions might be unrelated to your role.
 
4.  All of the Pre-course modules must be completed before the webinar dates

Participant Manual 
After completing all three Pre-Course Activities, you will have access to the Participant Manual. Please download the Participant Manual on your preferred device before you attend the course. This will help you follow along.

Pallium Palliative Pocketbook electronic version
Your registration in a LEAP course comes with an electronic copy of the Pallium Palliative Pocketbook, a practical, peer-reviewed, and fully referenced one-stop resource that is intended to support safe, ethical, effective, and accountable palliative clinical service. Please download the Pocketbook before attending your course as facilitators will make reference to it during the course.
 
To download the Pallium Palliative Pocketbook e-book:

1.     Login to your Pallium Central account.
2.     Select My sessions and then go to the Course Work button on the right-hand side.
3.     At the top of this page you will find the information related to downloading the Pallium Palliative Pocketbook e-book. Please follow the instructions that are listed there based on the device you are downloading the e-book on. 
 
Pallium Palliative Pocketbook print version
As an added benefit, your LEAP course registration includes the option of purchasing the print version of the Pallium Palliative Pocketbook via pallium.ca for 50% off the retail price. Many LEAP participants have found the print version is a useful reference tool to keep in their clinic or practice setting. You will receive the 50% discount code in a separate email from Pallium Canada. This discount code cannot be shared and is valid for one-time use only. 
 
Obtaining your Certificate of Completion
To obtain the certificate of completion after the course, you must complete ALL Post-Course Activities. There are six Post-Course Activities:
– Post-Course Evaluation
– Initial Commitment to Change
– Attitudes to Palliative and End-of-Life Care Survey
– Palliative Care Comfort Scale 
– Palliative Care Knowledge Quiz 
– Four Month Commitment to Change** (This becomes available four months after you complete your Initial Commitment to Change)
 
**The Four Month Commitment to Change does not become available until four months after you complete the Initial Commitment to Change. You will be able to access your certificate of completion once the Four Month Commitment to Change activity is complete. For those who want to claim credits, the certificate of completion will have all the necessary details.
 
For example, if you have completed the Initial Commitment to Change on January 27, 2020, the Four Month Commitment to Change will only unlock on May 27, 2020.
